Who This Information Applies To

This information is relevant to:

  • People currently serving in the Armed Forces
  • Veterans (those who have previously served)
  • Dependants of serving personnel and veterans

Why It’s Important to Identify Yourself as a Military Veteran

Identifying yourself as a military veteran helps ensure you can access the specialist support and healthcare available to those who have served.

If you have a health condition that may be linked to your time in the Armed Forces, you may be eligible for priority NHS treatment. This could mean being seen more quickly than usual, depending on your individual circumstances and the type of treatment needed.

It’s important to note that priority treatment is not automatic. Eligibility is based on:

  • Whether the condition is related to your military service
  • The clinical needs and capacity of the NHS service providing care

By identifying as a veteran, you help healthcare professionals take these factors into account and ensure you are directed to the most appropriate support.

Financial Support Available

There are a wide range of financial support options for members of the Armed Forces community, including veterans and their families. These may include grants, welfare support, cost of living assistance, housing support, and service specific financial schemes.
